Shane Chartrand

Shane Chartrand is the forefront of Indigenous Cuisine in North America. Raised in Central Alberta where his family taught him the values of fishing, hunting and the outdoors, where he started his Culinary and personal journey. He Relocated to Edmonton, Ab. Where he was able to pursue his culinary Training at NAIT, where he graduated from and received his Red Seal, as well as later receiving an Honorary Degree, Award of Excellence for his outside academic accolades. Also, holding an” Indigenous Role Model Award” and “Indigenous Culinary Arts Award”. Chef Shane has won may competition awards, trophies and medals for his Culinary Competitions, (Chef of the year competition, Gold Medal plates competition- 4 medals) as well written an award-winning cookbook, tawaw- Progressive Indigenous Cuisine, which is one of the most influential indigenous cookbooks globally. He has run many Hotels, restaurants and Resorts, and cooked internationally. He also has judged and competed on shows such as- Top Chef Canada Iron Chef Canada CHOPPED Canada Fridge War Wall of Chefs His television presences continues in shows- Red Chef Revival documentary, APTN’s Michif Country. Chartrand also was the only Canadian indigenous chef asked to attend COP-27 in Cairo, Egypt to be a keynote speaker, as well as do radio and television globally to 25 countries. Shane has been all over the globe doing Indigenous food talks and food demonstrations from Toronto, NWT, Boston, Yukon, Vancouver to New York City and Sharm El Shiek. “Food is all he knows, and he wants to learn, see, know, cook and eat……more!”
